The free world is mourning for the great leader who guided it through one of the most challenging times in the post-WW2 era. Facing seeds of totalitarianism which had managed to infiltrate the West, Thatcher didn’t stop reminding the world about the liberal foundations of the West. In a time of wareness in those values, Thatcher’s legacy is a crucial will.
Margaret Thatcher will be remembered as one of the 20th century’s heroes. Like Winston Churchill and Charles de Gaulle, she was an extraordinary person appearing in an extraordinary time in history. Just as Churchill saved Britain and the free world from Hitler, and just as de Gaulle restored France its dignity and its power, Thatcher rescued Britain from its international and economic decline. However, her achievements exceeded Britain itself: She restored liberlaism and conservatism its proper place. If the liberal idea is considered a success, it is to a large extent thanks to the Iron Lady.
